The Bankruptcy “Signing Appointment”

If you hire our firm to represent you in a Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy in Oregon or Washington you will have what is called a “signing appointment” with your bankruptcy attorney before your case is officially filed.

When you file a bankruptcy there will be a petition filed along with several schedules. This can range anywhere from 50-100 pages.   Our office prepares the official schedules and petition from documents provided to our office.  Once we have completed the paperwork and received all of the necessary supporting documents we are ready to have the signing appointment.

The signing appointment is where you and your attorney will sit down and review the entire petition to make sure everything is accurate and complies with the bankruptcy laws.  Once the signing appointment is complete and all pages have been reviewed and signed in the appropriate place we file your bankruptcy electronically.

A signing appointment allows you and your attorney to put the final touches on the case and make sure you are in the best position to file the bankruptcy and make sure the bankruptcy paperwork is accurate. The signing appointment typically takes 45 minutes to an hour and a half depending on the specific case.
